Core Values!

The Abbey Church provides a context in which the life-changing truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ are set free to invade every area of society and walk of life. Just like original Abbeys were communities of faith established to evangelize and serve new regions, the Abbey Church is an ever-dynamic expression of the Kingdom of God, radiating outward from the heart of a local church.

We believe that God is crying out to his people to “rebuild the ancient ruins,” but not in an ancient way! The Abbey Church represents our commitment to express the radical redemption that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ in language relevant to contemporary society.

God’s plan is to absolutely change society through human vessels! Every believer is a resource for changing the world and when we truly learn how to release each other to the expressions of faith that God has written in each of our hearts, we will see the church be the life-giving center of the community in which it is planted. This is the Abbey Church.

Core Values

Our Core Values do not exist in a vacuum

Life is lived in a messy world, but we will strive to express a spirit of excellence without sacrificing authenticity. We live out our core values recognizing a Dynamic Tension exists between key values in the culture of the Kingdom of God. Because  the word “balance” implies a “perfectness” that is unrealistic and life has “leanings” in any given moment, we have identified our core values that live in a “dynamic tension” with each other. We believe these tensions are the root of what we want to operate out of. You will find these words are not opposites but rather complimentary.

GRACE AND FAITH– Ephesians 2:8 states that “we are saved by grace through faith, and this not of ourselves, it is the gift of God.”

We are saved solely by His grace alone! But, His grace is made personally active and effective when received by faith. One person said it this way, “Grace is God’s big hand reaching down to us. Faith is our little hand reaching up to grab hold of His hand.”  We emphasize God’s grace as demonstrated in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the impartation of His righteousness and promises to us through faith.

HONOR and AUTHENTICITY – We emphasize a “culture of Honor” where the gifts and callings of God in each individual define how we relate to one another, especially those in roles of leadership.

1 Thessalonians 5:12 states, “Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.” So, we strive to honor those in leadership as “those who must give an account” for their leadership. Leaders strive to lead with the same heart as the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:24, ” But that does not mean we want to dominate you by telling you how to put your faith into practice. We want to work together with you so you will be full of joy, for it is by your own faith that you stand firm.” We believe that every believer is called and equipped for “works of ministry” as expressed in Ephesians 4:12.

STEWARDSHIP AND GENEROSITY – Philippians 4 gives us the great promise, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

We recognize the context of the promise to the Philippians that they practiced both financial stewardship and generosity to the Apostle Paul’s ministry. We emphasize God’s promise and plan to bless His people with prosperity for the mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and bringing the influence of the Kingdom of God to society and we teach Kingdom truths for financial stewardship to empower God’s people in this mission.

SPIRIT AND WORD – Smith Wigglesworth gave a prophecy about a coming move of God that would sweep the world as a move of both teaching revelation of the Word of God and the manifestation of the gifts of Holy Spirit.

We emphasize the Word of God as the absolute truth and authority over our lives and the role of the Holy Spirit as the teacher and the One who empowers His people to experience and walk in the that truth.
